The Russian Emergencies Ministry says the area of burning forests in the country has halved in the past 24 hours. On Wedneday officials confirmed the wildfires had reached areas contaminated with radiation from the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. But they say most of the blazes had been extinguished and the facility at Chernobyl is NOT affected.
