# The last American combat brigade in Iraq has left the country, seven years after the US-led invasion. Some 50,000 US troops will however remain until the end of next year. The US State Department has described the end of combat operations as an "historic moment," and vowed that America's long-term commitment to Iraq is "unwavering".
