After six years and countless deaths, World War Two came to an end in 1945 - to scenes of jubilation all over the world.

The Nuremberg Trials were initiated to process Nazi atrocities, and the founding of the United Nations was supposed to bring a glimmer of hope back to humanity. But behind the scenes, the shadows of the Cold War and the challenges of decolonization were already lurking.

Thanks to extraordinary archival material and the analysis of international experts, the film brings the year 1945 back to life. It creates an understanding of how these 12 months laid the foundations for the modern world.
