Zimbabwe terminates its membership in the Commonwealth after the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) extended its sanctions on the country.

Commonwealth members decided to extend sanctions against the country after a tense debate on the third day of the summit in Abuja, Nigeria. The decision demanded reforms and reconciliation with the opposition before it would be allowed to return to the 54-member bloc.
