Presidential and parliamentary elections saw Morgan Tsvangirai claim a narrow victory. Zimbabwe's electoral commission announces that while neither party received a majority vote, coupled with Mugabe refusing to accept defeat, a run-off election would be held.
Tsvangirai withdrew days before the poll, complaining of intimidation. Nevertheless, the run-off election went ahead.
This time Mugabe received an overwhelming number of votes. The two would later sign a power-sharing agreement. Implementation stalls over who will get the top ministerial jobs. A coalition government rules the country for the next five years.
