# The German Defence Minister's plans to reform the armed forces have sparked a heated debate. Opposition is strongest to his proposal to suspend conscripton and rely on a purely professional army. On Tuesday, Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg once again defended his plans during a visit to a Bundeswehr unit in Grafenwöhr in southern Germany - which is also home to a US Army garrison.
