Environmental objective: Preserving a vital carbon sink and stabilizing local habitats
Project goal: Reducing ground erosion with sustainable agricultural practices
Project investment: 1.6 million euros ($2.2 million)
Project duration: September 2009 - December 2012

Rwanda is one of the most densely populated countries in Africa, and its thick, lush rainforests are home to most of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. But this habitat is increasingly at risk from erosion and forest clearance. German agrarian scientists have developed a concept to save Rwanda's rainforests that balances both economic and environmental interests.
