A relative newcomer to the political stage, Manuela Schwesig has been appointed Germany's Minister of Family Affairs. Formerly the Minister for Social Affairs in the eastern German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, she's being touted as a rising star among the new generation of Social Democrats.
