Acropolis remained closed - tourists are angry

October 11, 2018

Almost all ancient sites and museums in Greece were closed due to a strike by museum guards and employees of the Ministry of Culture on Thursday.

Hundreds of tourists who were not informed about the strike went back to their hotels angry. "That can't be. I came from Australia to visit the Acropolis and now I can't see anything," a tourist from Perth said on Greek television (ERT).

The Ministry of Culture criticized the strike. The employees had called for protest because many ancient sites were on a privatization list of the Greek state. The government stated that this had been a mistake that had since been corrected.
