Rights groups say enforced disappearances are once again casting a shadow over Kenya. Two years after the Gen Z protests against a controversial finance bill, families are still searching for loved ones who never came home.

Human rights groups in Kenya say abductions and enforced disappearances remain a serious concern despite President William Ruto's 2024 pledge to end them. Families are still searching for loved ones who vanished during protests against the finance bill and later demonstrations.

Activist Davis Lichuma was reported missing before being found injured in hospital, while Dennis Chege has been missing since the 2024 protests. Rights organizations accuse police of failing to prevent abuses, but authorities deny any involvement and reject allegations of enforced disappearances.
