Families in Cameroon have reported that their loved ones have died or disappeared after reaching Russia and ending up on Ukrainian battlefields. Among them are civilians and soldiers who deserted the Cameroonian army in search of better opportunities.

Cameroonian mother Beatrice Tchangon mourns her son Brice Yondou, who left for Russia seeking work but was recruited into the army. With no military experience and only four days of training, he was sent to fight in Ukraine. He later went missing in the Kursk region. His story reflects a growing trend of young Cameroonians lured by promises of high pay to join Russia’s war, often without full understanding or support.
