A fashion model in Angola fights against albinism discrimination, a Nigerian photographer celebrates African identity, and more in this episode of Afrimaxx, presented by Seitebatso Khomari at the King's Royal Cup in Lesotho.

Challenging stereotypes is the common thread running through this episode. The face that represents best, is Telmo Martins.

The Angolan fashion model challenges discrimination against people with albinism. After walking some of Africa’s biggest runways, he now sets his sights on Europe - turning visibility into resistance.

Hosted by Seitebatso Khomari, this episode of Afrimaxx presents stories of Africans who challenge expectations in culture, identity and everyday life; such as:

Opera singer Pretty Yende, who defies assumptions about who belongs on the world’s classical stages. Despite her international success, including performing at the coronation of King Charles III in 2023, African opera singers remain a rarity in the global spotlight.

In the bustling capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a humble staple challenges culinary hierarchies. Kwanga, made from cassava, rivals German bread in popularity and reflects the deep cultural roots of Congolese cuisine.

Photographer Obinna Obioma, working between Nigeria and New York, confronts narrow perceptions of African art. His work has evolved from portraiture to exploring identity, heritage and the human condition.
