Germany’s Environment Ministry gave the green light on Friday to reopen the Biblis A nuclear power planet in the town of Biblis in the central state of Hesse. The ministry said utility company RWE had successfully concluded the work necessary to make the reactor secure. In April, authorities discovered that the 29-year-old reactor’s emergency cooling system was too small to cope with a serious emergency. Since then, operations at the reactor, Germany’s third oldest, have been suspended. Plans call for the plant to continue generating electricity until 2012.
