As the world marks World Food Day, Rwanda, Ghana and Morocco are turning to artificial intelligence to boost food production and strengthen food security. DW Africa explores how.

How is AI helping African nations feed their people?

In Rwanda, experts believe it’s not about how fancy the technology is, but how easily everyday farmers can use it.

Meanwhile, Ghana is using AI and drones to help farmers spot diseases and pests in cashew trees and maize, helping to boost production.

In Kenya, the PlantVillage Nuru app uses AI to analyse plant leaves through a smartphone camera and spot signs of disease, even without an internet connection. It can help farmers identify crop threats quickly.

On the other front, Nigeria and Morocco have launched a satellite- and AI-powered system to monitor crops, forecast production and identify food-security risks.
