Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the Russian writer and historian, died on Sunday. The Itar-Tass news agency says he had been very frail for several years and died of heart failure. Solzhenitsyn's writing brought him global fame and he was awarded the Nobel prize for Literature in 1970.
