‘America is Taking Asia More Seriously’

US President Obama’s Asia trip started on Friday from Tokyo, where he met newly elected Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama. The two leaders promised to revitalise their nations’ ties.

Obama then travelled to Singapore to meet with the leaders of the Association of South-East Asian Nations and attended a summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum or APEC, in a bid to push deeper trade ties with the region.

But what exactly is the message that Mr Obama trying to convey during this nine-day Asia tour?
