Amid the deadly heat wave gripping Europe, Prague Zoo is keeping its animals cool with tons of ice every day. As the temperatures soar above 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit), officials at the Prague Zoo say heaps of ice help animals, particularly polar bears, feel at home.

The Prague Zoo in the Czech Republic has brought in tons of ice this summer to keep animals cool amid the sweltering heat wave. The ice helps Arctic species like polar bears beat the extreme heat. The bears can be seen rolling around in the ice as well as relaxing on the chunks of frozen water.

Despite the heat, thousands of people, including tourists from across the globe, have lined up to see Aleut and Gregor, two polar bear twin brothers, lounge around in heaps of ice.

Zookeeper Aneta Louzecka said the Prague Zoo began using this method last year and that it has helped the animals feel at home.

In July, average temperatures soared to 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 Fahrenheit) in large parts of the Czech Republic, including Prague. The presence of animals from colder parts of the world at Prague Zoo has raised ethical concerns.

Filip Masek, spokesperson for the Prague Zoo, said it's important to breed these species in the zoo, otherwise they could go extinct in two to three generations.
