He's 89 years old, he's a former German chancellor and he's perhaps the country's most famous nicotine addict. Helmut Schmidt is apparently under investigation by prosecutors in his home town of Hamburg after he provocatively lit up a cigarette in a restaurant there shortly after midnight on January first -- the day on which a smoking ban came into force here in Germany.
