Uganda's Stephen Kiprotich powered past his Kenyan rivals in the men's marathon at London 2012 to secure the country's second-ever gold medal. The US beat Spain in the men's basketball to win their 14th basketball gold.

Five-time World Cup champions Brazil were denied their first Olympic gold in soccer yet again. They lost 2-1 to underdogs Mexico at Wembley stadium. In athletics, Jamaica had an expected triumph in the 4x100 men's relay

German men strike hockey gold

On the penultimate day of the London Olympics, Germany’s men’s hockey team has won Olympic gold , beating the Netherlands 2-1. Meanwhile, Germany nabbed a silver medal in the women's mountain biking.

Brunei's record-breaker

Beach gold for Germany

For the first time since the sport's debut at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, a European country has won beach volleyball gold. Germany's Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann defeated Brazil to win.

Bolt doubles down again

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has defended his 200 meter Olympic title in Beijing, winning in a time of 19.32 seconds, short of both his world and Olympic records.

Bucked off podium

Germany missed the podium in the individual jumping event of the equestrian competition at the London Olympics. The disappointment in that event was off-set to some extent by medals from Germany in earlier competitions.

Golden throw for Harting

Robert Harting won gold in the discus throw Tuesday, giving Germany its sixth gold at the London Olympics. British cyclist Chris Hoy made history earlier in the evening by becoming his country's most decorated Olympian.

Liu Xiang in hurdles disaster

A former Chinese hurdles world champion has once again had his hopes dramatically crushed in the Olympic heats. The athlete has battled a foot injury for four years.

Bolt retains 100m title

Jamaica's Usain Bolt won gold in the 100 meters Sunday evening. His 9.63-second time was an Olympic record. South African double amputee Oscar Pistorius also raced in the third night of athletics at the London Olympics.

Murray claims tennis gold

Britain's Andy Murray defeated Swiss legend Roger Federer to win gold in the men's individual tennis final Sunday. Women boxers, a British sailor and others made Olympic history in an action-packed day.
