NATO's new spending target of 5% of GDP on defense has been hailed as historic. But is it for real? In an exclusive interview, DW's Richard Walker speaks to Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon about Slovenian political wrangling with that commitment as well as Slovenia's attitude to the conflict in Gaza.

In many member states, politicians are now wrangling with how to achieve recently announced NATO goals, and whether they come at the cost of other priorities. In Slovenia, the government itself is divided – with calls for referenda on the spending hikes and even on NATO membership itself. In this exclusive interview, DW speaks to Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon. Is Slovenia serious about meeting its commitments? Or is this an early sign that the new goals are a mirage, just like the 2% goal agreed more than a decade ago?
