The news of the sudden death of Pina Bausch sent shock waves through the dance world. Not even three weeks ago, she was celebrating the premiere of her newest work in Wuppertal. Pina Bausch was a groundbreaking choreographer. Since the 1970s, she has revolutionized dance around the globe with her Wuppertal Tanztheater – traveling from continent to continent with her ensemble. Throughout her career, she has challenged the traditional calm of choreographic movement, setting her dancers’ bodies into a flurry of motion. With theatrical flare, she created fantastic new worlds and stories of her own. Her credo: "I’m not interested in how people move, but what moves them." The international dance world has lost its grande dame, an icon.
