The foreign ministers of Southeast Asian nations or ASEAN countries are due to meet next week in Singapore. Along with rising food and oil prices, Myanmar will also be high on the agenda. The ministers will likely discuss Myanmar’s handling of the Cyclone Nargis disaster, which claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and left more than two million homeless. The military regime of Myanmar drew widespread criticism for not accepting help from Western nations initially despite the magnitude of the disaster.
