Asia must tighten monetary policy to contain inflation: Expert

Asia’s recovery from the global economic meltdown has been quite remarkable so far. But now concern about inflation seems to be taking centre stage.

Food prices in India, for instance, rose by almost 19 percent in 2009 and China’s consumer prices increased by 1.9 per cent last December.

In Indonesia inflation hit an eight month high in January with a 3.7 per cent increase in prices.

Central banks in the region are now under mounting pressure to deal with the threat.
