Australia has expelled Iran's ambassador after accusing Tehran of directing at least two antisemitic attacks in the country. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said there is credible intelligence that Iran was behind arson attacks on a Jewish-owned deli in Sydney, and a synagogue in Melbourne.

Intelligence officials say Iran's regime and its proxies "lit the matches" in a campaign that endangered lives and fractured communities.

Australia has seen a surge in hate crimes since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, with Prime Minister Albanese accusing Iran of trying to bring the Middle East conflict to Australian shores.

Plans are now underway to classify Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.
