A Russian politician wants to buy the building where Adolf Hitler was born and have it torn down - a project that is meeting vehement opposition.

The building in which Hitler was born was used first as a library, then as a school, as a bank and finally as a care facility for the disabled. It now stands empty. In Braunau a debate has erupted over whether the building should be turned into a place of remembrance or residential apartments.
