The guilty verdict was delivered at the end of a monthslong trial. The prosecutor said the former prime minister had soaked her feet with the blood of young students during an anti-government uprising in 2024.

Bangladesh's special tribunal has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death in absentia for crimes against humanity linked to the 2024 student-led uprising. Prosecutors say the verdict ends a "culture of impunity." Victims' families are demanding her swift execution. Hasina, now in exile in India, calls the ruling politically motivated. The United Nations has hailed the verdict as justice for victims, though it does not support the death penalty.
