Bangladesh's exiled leader vows democratic revival

Tarique Rahman, the son of a former prime minister, has sparked anticipation with his return to Bangladesh on Thursday. His party is regaining momentum ahead of February's elections following the 2024 ouster of the country's previous leader.

Hundreds of thousands of people turned out to welcome the return from exile of Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Rahman spent nearly 17 years in London, saying he was forced out by political opponents.

His run for prime minister could bring the party back to power for the first time in nearly two decades.
