Alex SistoFebruary 11, 2007

Bayern win their first match with coach Ottmar Hitzfeld on Sunday. On Saturday, a 2-0 win against Hertha gives Schalke six point lead over nearest rivals Werder Bremen who lose 4-1 to Stuttgart.

BAYERN MUNICH 1 ARMINIA BIELEFELD 0

Roy Makaay scored the gamewinner for Bayern already in the eighth minute but after that neither team presented their best side. It's the first victory for Bayern under new coach Ottmar Hitzfeld and amazingly just the first one in the second leg. For Bielefeld, the loss extends their winless streak to nine which throws them into the fight against relegation, and enough reason for coach Thomas von Heesen to throw in the towel and resign his -- the fourth Bundesliga coach in less than two weeks to do so.

BOCHUM 0 NUREMBERG 2

A fortunate win for Nuremberg in Bochum. Headed for a goalless draw, Nuremberg's Russian forward Ivan Saenko struck twice in the waning minutes. With the loss Bochum slides into the relegation zone. Nuremberg on the other hand slide ahead of Hertha Berlin on goal difference for a spot in the UEFA Cup.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN 2 EINTRACHT FRANKFURT 2

Ten-man Leverkusen battled to a draw with a late equaliser
after goalkeeper Joerg Butt was sent off after 28 minutes for
handling outside the area. Midfielder Jermaine Jones sent a bullet header into his own net after 39 minutes to give Leverkusen the lead. Frankfurt equalised just before the break, Sotirios Kyrgiakos leaping unchallenged to head home Albert Streit's outswinging corner. Alexander Meier looked to have won the match for Frankfurt with a goal in the 84th minute but Stefan Kiessling scored in the first minute of added time after a defensive lapse.

MOENCHENGLADBACH 0 AACHEN 0

A largely uneventful match ended goalless and saw Aachen join Moenchengladbach in the relegation zone with both teams on 20 points with just five wins each this season. Aachen striker Jan Schlaudraff had a chance to win the match late on but goalkeeper Kasey Keller rushed out to block his effort.

MAINZ 4 ENERGIE COTTBUS 1

A first Bundesliga hat-trick for Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan helped Mainz move out of the relegation zone and into 14th place, one point behind Cottbus in 13th. Defender Leon Andreasen pounced on a loose ball to give Mainz the lead on seven minutes before Sergiu Radu raced clear and finished cooly low to the right of the goal for 1-1. Zidan restored Mainz's lead two minutes later, beating the offside trap and sending a low shot past Tomislav Piplica. He then made it 3-1 from the penalty spot after Elkin Soto
was brought down from behind before racing clear to score his
third and Mainz's fourth on the hour.

HAMBURG 3 BORUSSIA DORTMUND 0

Bottom club Hamburg's new coach Huub Stevens claimed a vital win in his home debut for only their second victory this season. Rafael van der Vaart stroked home a penalty after 11 minutes
after Mehdi Mahdavikia appeared to dive across Dortmund
goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller. Van der Vaart was also involved in Hamburg's second, Collin Benjamin heading home the Dutchman's deflected cross, before Dortmund defender Dede was sent off just before the break for a crude challenge on David Jarolim. A dreadful miss-kick by Weidenfeller just before the end
allowed Mahdavikia in to score Hamburg's third and give them
their first home win of the season.

SCHALKE 2 HERTHA BERLIN 0

Schalke stretched their lead over Werder Bremen at the top
of the table to six points with their 10th win in 11 matches
while Hertha remain in fifth place. Germany international striker Kevin Kuranyi gave Schalke the lead with a brave header from Lincoln's corner after 64 minutes. Danish striker Peter Lovenkrands, who scored both in Schalke's 2-0 win over Bremen last weekend, slid home the rebound from his own shot 11 minutes later to secure victory.

VFB STUTTGART 4 WERDER BREMEN 1

Stuttgart took the lead in only the third minute when midfielder Roberto Hilbert met Ludovic Magnin's cross at the far post and squeezed a shot over Tim Wiese into the left of the goal. Mario Gomez doubled Stuttgart's lead 11 minutes later with his 12th of the season, making him the Bundesliga's sole top scorer ahead of Bremen striker Miroslav Klose on 11. Strong work from Germany international Klose set up Diego, the Brazilian blasting the ball high into the net from close range. Magnin then restored Stuttgart's two-goal lead, bursting into the box from the left and curling a right-foot shot into the bottom right corner.Marco Streller completed the scoring on 86 minutes after good work down the left from Gomez and a deft pass from Hilbert

HANOVER 96 2 VFL WOLFSBURG 2

On Friday Hanover twice came back from a goal behind to draw with Wolfsburg in a scrappy Lower Saxony derby between the two mid-table sides. Wolfsburg striker Diego Klimowicz gave them the lead in the third minute before Hanno Balitsch slammed a loose ball through Klimowicz's legs into the net for 1-1. Jacek Krzynowek's drove a left-foot shot high into the goal from the edge of the box to give Wolfsburg a 2-1 lead at the break. Defender Frank Fahrenhorst then made it 2-2 in the 62nd minute, bundling the ball home with his thigh.
