The Fischland-Darss peninsula, a little paradise stretching along the Baltic Coast, offers wide beaches, sheer coastal cliffs, idyllic villages and dense forest.

West Beach, which is fully exposed to the forces of nature, and the Darss Forest, which is criss-crossed by hiking paths.

The main town on Darss is the Baltic spa resort of Prerow with its broad sandy beach. Also worth seeing are the sailors' houses with their carved and painted doors as well as the Fisherman's Church with its numerous model ships.

Nearby Ahrenshoop is also worth a stopover. More than 100 years ago, an artists' colony was set up in the village with the reed-covered fishermen's cottages. Art still plays an important role here - the Künstlerhaus Lukas, for example, offers residencies to artists from across Europe, and the Kunstkaten, the first gallery in Ahrenshoop, exhibits artworks made by the local painters and potters.

Click on the video below to join Henrik Schmidtbauer, a kayak tour guide, on a personalized tour of Darss. He recommends the harbor of Althagen, a sound gallery in Ahrenshoop and the Bodden near Bliesenrade.
