In a podcast hosted by an Israeli taken hostage by Hamas during the October 7th terror attack, Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said Israel should kill up to 40 Gazans every night with targeted assassinations.

Hildegard Bentele, a member of the European Parliament for Germany's conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and chairperson of the EU-Israel delegation, spoke to DW about controversial statements by Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir of the far-right Jewish Power party.

"Ben-Gvir ... has made many statements which were over the top or unacceptable from a European point of view," Bentele said.

"This is why he has been sanctioned already by some members of the European Union" and other Western states.

Asked whether the EU sanctioning Ben-Gvir is realistic, she said “it is realistic I think.”
