Rehman Malik, an official from Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party said "she has been martyred" after the 54-year-old former prime minister died in hospital.

According to police, a suicide bomber shot at her and she was wounded by a gunshot in her head, as she left a rally in a park. He then blew himself up. At least 20 other people were killed by the blast.

Initially, officials had said Bhutto was safe but it later emerged she had been wounded and rushed to hospital where she later was confirmed dead.

Over 150 people died on Oct 16 when a suicide bomber targetted a rally for Bhutto's return to Pakistan after eight years in self-imposed exile.
