"Berliner Tafel" Food Bank

Around 900 cities in Germany support local food banks that collect and distribute food to the homeless and needy. The first one was founded in Berlin 20 years ago. Back then an idealistic project comprising just 15 activists, the Berliner Tafel is now a smoothly run organization that feeds around 125,000 Berliners a month.
