Bitburger Brewery acquires Wernesgrüner

In its bid to lead the German beer market, Bitburger bought the remaining shares of Wernesgrüner Brewery, the company announced today. Until obtaining the shares from the Brewery Riebeck, Bitburger owned 63 percent of Wernesgrüner. "The complete acquisition of Wernesgrüner is an important step on the way to becoming the leading provider of premium German beers," Bitburger manager Michael Dietzsch commented. Last year, the Bitburger group managed steady growth, producing 13.95 million hectolitres (368 million gallons) of drinks.
