BMW Recalls 75,000 Cars Over Seat Heating

December 28, 2004

German luxury car maker said Tuesday it was recalling 75,000 of its 5 and 7 Series cars worldwide owing to potential problems with their seat heating systems. Problems could arise with the heating mats in the seats, which could damage passenger's clothing and theoretically even lead to burns, a BMW spokesman said. The models concerned were built between February 2003 and June 2004. BMW said it would write to the cars' owners and ask them to take them into garages for repair. The recall was likely to cost BMW around €16 million ($22 million), the carmaker estimated.
