The makeshift explosive device went off outside the offices of one of Greece's largest insurance companies, Ethniki Asfalistiki, which is owned by the Greek National Bank.
The blast caused serious material damage to parked automobiles and buildings.
"There was a warning phone call to a newspaper about 15 minutes before the explosion, but no claim of responsibility," a police spokesman said.
The incident is the latest in a series of attacks blamed on extreme left-wing political groups and anarchists, who mainly target banks and public buildings.
