A debate in recent weeks has the German literary world in a tizzy. German-speaking writers have been accused of producing work that’s overly sedate, even boring. Authors from immigrant backgrounds who write here are similarly humdrum, it’s said. Arts.21 pays a visit to the Leipzig Book Fair in search of authors who flout conventions and take risks.
