The 40-year-old German tennis star, who became the youngest-ever winner of the Wimbledon's men's singles title at the age of 17 in 1985, was confirming a report in the mass-circulation newspaper Bild.

The paper reported that he had become engaged to Alessandra Meyer-Woelden, 24, in the luxury resort on Sunday.

Becker's spokeswoman, Isabelle Kessler, said no details would be released at this stage.

Meyer-Woelden is the daughter of the late Axel Meyer-Woelden, Becker's former manager. She was close to another tennis professional, Thomas Haas, for several years until 2003.

Becker was married for eight years to Barbara Becker, formerly Feltus, with whom he has sons Noah Gabriel, 14, and Elias Balthasar, 8.

He also has a daughter Anna, 8, with Angela Ermakova.

Becker is a former World No. 1, having won six Grand Slam singles titles.
