Boris Becker in Court Again

Boris Becker appeared in court again on Thursday almost a year after he unsuccessfully fought charges of tax evasion. This time the liquidator of Sportgate, Becker's failed Internet portal, demanded €1.5 million ($1.7 million) plus interest from the three-time Wimbledon winner in a Munich court. Sportgate, which was slated to become the Internet portal for the German Sports Confederation (DSB), was declared insolvent in mid-2001. The liquidator claims that the former tennis player had promised to cover up to €1.5 million of Sportgate's losses. If the two parties are unable to settle the issue amicably, the court will open a civil action.
