Brazil reclaim top spot in FIFA rankings
April 6, 2017The five-time world champions have enjoyed a impressive revival since Tite replaced Dunga as their national team coach last year, winning all nine matches they have played under his leadership including eight World Cup qualifiers.
Their latest victories came last month with a 4-1 win in Uruguay and 3-0 win over Paraguay that helped Brazil become the first side to book their place at next year's World Cup in Russia with four games to spare.
In a further boost for Brazilian fans, they replace old rivals Argentina (now 2nd) at the top of the tree, a position they haven't held since being knocked out of the 2010 World Cup by the Netherlands at the quarter stage.
At number 3, Germany are the only Europeans in the top 5, with Chile and Colombia rounding out the top 5.
Egypt are Africa's best-placed team in 19th while Asia's top side are 28th-placed Iran.
