Brazil’s cities are dangerous. The favelas in particular are crime-riddled. Demétrio Martins used to be the boss of a drugs gang in Rio de Janeiro. A shoot-out with the police left him in a wheelchair and prompted him to change his direction in life. Nowadays he spends his days going around the favelas preaching and trying to get gangsters to reform.
