Brazil's former far-right president Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after the Supreme Court suspected he might flee house arrest. The court said signs of tampering with his ankle monitor suggested a plan to flee while appealing his conviction.

Brazil's Supreme Court has released footage showing Jair Bolsonaro's damaged ankle monitor. Before his arrest, the former president admitted using a soldering iron "out of curiosity."

Authorities detained Bolsonaro over fears he might escape house arrest, which his lawyer has denied. Bolsonaro faces a 27-year sentence for plotting a coup but claims political persecution.

His detention has sparked mixed reactions across Brazil, highlighting deep divisions in the country.
