February 4, 2013

Jacek Stankiewics grew up in a mining town. Through a vacation job the South African got involved in an earthquake research project, which brought him to the German Research Center for Geosciences in Potsdam. Jacek develops early-warning systems for earthquakes and analyzes the processes involved in these natural disasters.

He is especially fascinated by the mathematics used in the analyses. In his free time he is an avid reader and traveller. Although Jacek likes Germany, he misses South Africa's wide-open spaces.
