As the oceans heat up, octopuses are migrating to the English coast. The newcomers are depleting local fish stocks, though fishers can profit from the new species, too.

Octopuses are disrupting traditional fishing on England’ s south coast, devouring the crabs and lobsters local crews rely on. Fisher Alan Steer fears the sudden boom may vanish as quickly as it arrived. Marine biologists link the surge to warming seas and expect more in coming years. With demand rising in the UK and Europe, fishers hope octopus can secure their future.
