Some people used to think they were a sign from the heavens, others that they were landing places for UFOs. Entire generations of esoterics have worked away at explaining the spectacular crop circles in the corn fields of England.

Now, of course, we know that aliens, ghosts and supernatural powers had nothing to do with the patterns in the fields. They're man-made. Matthew Williams, an amateur pilot, and self-admitted dropout from the crop circle scene, has outed himself as one of the people who have used the simplest of means to create the world-famous circles in the summer. Now he says he wants to give up because he suffers from hay fever.
