Opinion polls in Britain are showing sharp gains for the country's Liberal Democrat party, after the first televised debate between leaders vying for the post of Prime Minister. The Liberal Democrats could play a pivotal role after the May 6th election, with neither Gordon Brown's Labour nor the opposition Conservaties expected to score a clear victory.
