Bulgaria Investigates German Spy Scandal
October 21, 2003The spying scandal that broke out last Friday in Germany, surrounding a 64-year-old German intelligence agent and a female Bulgarian spy, has force the Bulgarian government to launch a full investigation into the embarrassing affair. While the German government fumes, intelligence services in Bulgaria are trying to ascertain who the spy’s paymaster was. The employee, who worked at the Bulgarian General Consulate in Munich, allegedly received information supposedly on organized crime in the Balkans from her German contact over a four-year period. Initial reports suggest the information supplied was not destined for Bulgaria but for another, unspecified country. The consulate employee is back in Bulgaria at the request of the German government.
