Burma: Preserving an Architectural Legacy

Myanmar, or Burma, has begun opening itself to the world. The country’s largest city, Rangoon, is a booming center of business and industry.

Apartment buildings, shopping centers, and office complexes are cropping up across the city. The transformation is threatening Rangoon’s colonial architectural legacy and is causing land prices and rents to reach levels that most local residents can no longer afford.
