Cambodia: Fighting the Animal Trade

Cambodia is a global center of the illegal trade in animals. Whether wild cats, rare primate species, or cobras, the ruthless business is booming, especially thanks to increased demand from China. An animal protection organization is trying to combat the problem.

The United States-based Wildlife Alliance has a lot of enemies in Cambodia, since the illegal animal trade is worth millions. At the Phnom Tamao sanctuary outside the Cambodian capital, it's clearly visible how ruthless the poachers and smugglers are. The center offers sanctuary to some 1,200 animals.
