Ghana's President, John Mahama, wants to open the African Continental Free Trade Area, the AfCFTA, to Caribbean nations when he becomes Chair of the African Union in 2027.

Mahama argues that bringing Caribbean countries into AfCFTA could boost trade, investment and business partnerships between the two regions. It could open new markets for African products while creating opportunities for Caribbean businesses to access a market of more than a billion people.

The question is: Should Africa focus on strengthening AfCFTA at home first, or is it time to bring the Caribbean into the world's largest free trade area?
