How can businesses adapt to a river that is becoming less predictable as low-water periods become more frequent?

The Rhine is one of Europe's most important trade routes, connecting major industrial hubs and carrying raw materials, chemicals, energy products and manufactured goods across the continent. But increasingly frequent periods of low water are creating costly challenges for companies that depend on it for transport.

Experts warn that drought and extreme weather events could make disruptions on rivers like the Rhine more common in the years ahead.

As Germany and Europe grapple with the impacts of climate change, the debate is shifting from short-term fixes to long-term adaptation, including infrastructure upgrades, specialized vessels and new supply-chain strategies.
